About Coach Philpot Foundation

Our Mission

The Coach Philpot Foundation empowers young student-athletes to excel athletically and academically by preparing them for both sports and alternative careers. We provide career exposure, mentorship, life skills training, emergency family support, and college/career readiness support to maximize success on and off the field.


Outcome Focus

  • Only ~1% of student-athletes make it to professional sports — we prepare the other 99% for meaningful careers beyond athletics.
  • We bridge gaps in career awareness and workforce readiness for youth through mentorship, internships, and structured pathways into high-growth fields.

Our WHY

The Coach Philpot Foundation draws its inspiration from the late Coach Kenny Philpot Sr., a highly respected figure in the world of high school sports in Chicago, IL. Known for his coaching prowess in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field, Coach Philpot Sr. dedicated his life to mentoring and guiding young individuals in one of the toughest areas of the city. 


During his funeral, his former athletes, now grown men and women, all echoed the same sentiment: Coach Philpot Sr. was not just a coach, but a father figure who had a profound impact on their lives, leaving an indelible mark that they could never fully repay. 


Continuing their father's legacy, Coach Kenny Philpot Jr. and Kurtis Ellison have chosen to follow in his footsteps as coaches and owners of non-profit foundations. Coach Kenny leads the Coach Philpot Foundation, based in Atlanta, GA, while Coach Kurt heads The Work Foundation, in Chicago, IL. Embodying their father's philosophy, Coach Philpot Sr.'s words still resonate: "I want y'all to be better than me!" With the support and collaboration of individuals like you, Coach Kenny and Coach Kurt are tirelessly striving to fulfill this vision, empowering young individuals to surpass their own achievements and reach new heights.
